William and Mary 1689-1702

William and Mary ruled in England following the deposition of James II in the Glorious Revolution, ruling together as husband and wife until Mary’s death in 1694. William continued as King until his death 8 years later.

William was, coincidentally, both the third King William in England and the third stadtholder of this name in the Netherlands .

The only other husband and wife ruling monarchs were Mary and Phillip (married in 1554)
